Instead of including a synopsis of these books (which you can easily find at Amazon.com), I’m just listing them and giving them diamonds for ratings (1-5).

2010

Self-Made Man by Norah Vincent ♦♦♦

An experiment as living as a man. A concise and interesting read.

Bridge of Sighs by Richard Russo ♦♦♦♦

I’m a Russo fan. This novel is long but a great read. Despite having an on-off like/dislike of the main character, so much is going on in here that it kept me captivated all of the way through—and thinking about it for several days.

Early 2009

Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer  ♦♦♦♦
One of my favorites. I reread it every year.

Alive by Piers Paul Read  ♦♦♦♦
Fascinating. A difficult story to write about with respect and accuracy.

The Darling by Russell Banks  ♦♦♦
What an interesting take on a much simpler Africa.

The Camomile Lawn by Mary Wesley  ♦♦♦♦
Wow! I discovered this at a little bookstore in Brisbane. I am now hooked on this author.

December 2008

Hot, Flat and Crowded by Thomas Friedman  ♦♦♦♦
I’m not a big reader of nonfiction books, but this one is a must-read. It will change your life.

The Loop by Nicholas Evans  ♦♦♦♦
Lovely. This one particularly resonates with me because of the wolves. Learn more about wolves by watching an excellent movie, A Woman Among Wolves, visit Ralph Maughan’s Wildlife News, or visit the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center.
